Faculty positions at the Institute for Astronomy
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa invites applications for four tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty positions.
The IfA faculty are sited at three facilities on the islands of Oʻahu (in Honolulu), Hawaiʻi (in Hilo), and Maui (in Pukalani). All faculty regardless of location participate equally in the teaching program, research, and academic life at the IfA.
The IfA has strong research groups in most areas of astrophysics, supported in part by access to all observational facilities on Maunakea and Haleakalā, with significant expertise in extragalactic, time domain, stellar, exoplanetary, planetary, and solar astronomy, as well as astronomical instrumentation and wide-field sky surveys. A majority of our faculty are based in Honolulu (see our faculty list) at the UH Mānoa campus where the undergraduate and graduate classes are taught. Applicants with expertise in all fields of astronomy and astronomical instrumentation will be considered.
In 2024-2025 the IfA seeks to fill four positions starting Fall 2025, three in Honolulu and one in Hilo, as part of an ongoing faculty hiring plan through the 2020s. If you wish to be considered for positions at both locations, you must submit two applications, i.e., you must submit a separate application to each of the two postings.
For more information on IfA and UH Mānoa, please view our prospectus.
